About this Webinar

The term “minimally invasive dentistry” should have a different meaning in 2026. Many dentists believe that the practice of MID should mean drilling smaller holes in teeth. However, chemotherapeutic agents like Silver Diamine Fluoride allow for a non-surgical arrest of caries. Many call SDF a miracle treatment for the pediatric dental patient. It is critical for all clinicians who treat children and teens to have an understanding of how to utilize SDF for their patients.

Advancements in diagnostic technology are enabling clinicians to detect caries at a stage where intervention can remain non-invasive and biologically driven. This course explores how AI-assisted radiographic interpretation and transillumination-based imaging work together to enhance early lesion detection and monitoring. Participants will learn how to translate these findings into clinical decision-making that prioritizes preservation of natural tooth structure and promotes subsurface mineral deposit. Through case-based discussions, the course highlights how early intervention can reduce restorative burden and improve long-term outcomes in pediatric patients.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain the mechanisms of action behind silver diamine fluoride and describe how SDF desensitizes and arrests caries
  2. Review the clinical application technique of SDF and gain an understanding of why SDF is a valuable tool in the general dentist’s
  3. Discuss how different formulations of SDF can improve patient compliance and cooperative levels
  4. Explain how AI-assisted radiographic analysis improves detection of early carious lesions.
  5. Differentiate between radiographic and transillumination findings in non-cavitated lesions.
  6. Identify early enamel lesions suitable for non-invasive or micro-invasive treatment.
